Essay #4

My choice for essay #4 was Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas released in 1990. The R rated crime/drama film brings you through the life of a mobster, through his rise and his fall. 1955, Brooklyn, New York growing up in the gangster error, revolving around murder, theft, extortion, drug use & sale, and plenty of drama to go around. Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) watches the life from his apartment window, thriving and wanting to be a 'wise guy', he did just that. Gaining his partner in crime at a young age Tommy (Joe Pesci) and his mentor Jimmy (Robert DeNiro), Henry was able to move through the rankings quick, by first doing errands and  petty crimes. Small things like arson and theft.  I feel like Goodfellas brings viewers out of their comfort zone and into a new world. Puts your brain to work and has you on the edge of your seat.
