Essay #4

My choice for essay #4 was Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas released in 1990. The R rated crime/drama film brings you through the life of a mobster, through his rise and his fall. 1955, Brooklyn, New York growing up in the gangster error, revolving around murder, theft, extortion, drug use & sale, and plenty of drama to go around. Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) watches the life from his apartment window, thriving and wanting to be a 'wise guy', he did just that. Gaining his partner in crime at a young age Tommy (Joe Pesci) and his mentor Jimmy (Robert DeNiro), Henry was able to move through the rankings quick, by first doing errands and  petty crimes. Small things like arson and theft.  I feel like Goodfellas brings viewers out of their comfort zone and into a new world. Puts your brain to work and has you on the edge of your seat.

My favorite commercial

Honestly didn't take too long to figure this one out. The Chrysler commercial for the 2011 Superbowl with Eminem. Eminem is by far one of my favorite artists and they did a really great job bringing the background of Detroit into the mix. I also like the true American made cars getting advertisement nation wide to let the competition know that Detroit was back in action. And what better way to do all of this but by showcasing Detroits own world famous rapper, producer, and actor, Eminem.

My thoughts are mixed about this article, Why would they exclude deathrow because of lack of DNA evidence but remove innocent people from the free world for incarceration and or death, and who's to say who is innocent and who is guilty? They go off the record, finding a few men believed to be guilty but proven innocent because of DNA does not mean its the same case for everyone. The piece states capital punishment is a system that preys on the poor and executes the innocent. Lack of evidence can leave an innocent man in the ground or a dangerous man on the streets and that is truly not right.

Fame-iness

In the a excerpt titled "Fame-iness" out of the college writing book "Patterns:A Rhetorical Reader and Guide" it is described the formation from early celebrities to present day celebrities and even an incite on the future for the elite group. Author Megan Daum in a nut shell, basically states that to be a celebrity years ago you were well known world widely to be a celebrity in present day you could be anything as long as you have enough supporters that respect what you are producing.
